New Delhi: Apple has introduced a major change to its MacBook lineup by launching its first-ever touchscreen MacBook Pro. Announced on October 28, 2026, the new laptop brings touchscreen functionality to the Mac for the first time, allowing users to interact directly with the display using their fingers.

The new MacBook Pro is available in 14-inch and 16-inch variants and features a PROLED XDR display, M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, Dynamic Island, and advanced AI capabilities. With these upgrades, Apple aims to deliver a more powerful, interactive computing experience, especially for professional users and content creators.

Touchscreen Experience Comes to MacBook for the First Time

The biggest highlight of the new MacBook Pro is its touchscreen functionality. Apple has traditionally relied on the keyboard and trackpad for MacBook navigation. However, the latest model introduces a completely new way of interacting with the device.

Users can scroll through webpages, zoom into photographs, move presentation slides and interact with creative projects directly on the screen.

The feature could be particularly useful for graphic designers, photographers, video editors and music producers. Apple has also kept the traditional keyboard and trackpad, letting users switch between touch and conventional controls.

PROLED XDR Display With Tandem OLED Technology

The new MacBook Pro introduces the PROLED XDR display, based on tandem OLED technology. It offers up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

The display also supports P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces, making it suitable for professional photography, video editing and colour grading.

Apple has also introduced an optional nano-texture finish designed to reduce reflections and glare, offering a better viewing experience in different lighting conditions.

M5 Pro and M5 Max Deliver Powerful Performance

Apple’s new MacBook Pro lineup is powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. The chips are designed to handle demanding professional workloads, including high-resolution video editing, 3D rendering, software development, and AI-based applications.

Depending on the configuration, the laptop offers up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage.

Apple claims that the new MacBook Pro can deliver up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge, although actual battery performance will depend on usage and configuration.

Dynamic Island Makes Its Debut on Mac

Another major addition is Dynamic Island, which Apple has brought to the MacBook Pro from its iPhone lineup.

It serves as a central interface for Spotlight search, Live Activities, and Siri AI. Users can access real-time updates, control music, and interact with important notifications directly through the feature.

The new macOS 27 also brings enhanced Siri AI and Apple Intelligence capabilities, offering additional productivity features.

Connectivity, Camera and Audio Features

The new MacBook Pro includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging and a headphone jack.

It also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. For video calls and online meetings, Apple has included a 12MP Center Stage camera.

The laptop also features an upgraded six-speaker sound system. According to Apple, the new audio system delivers 50 per cent deeper bass compared with the previous generation.

Is the New Touchscreen MacBook Pro Worth Its Price?

The new MacBook Pro represents more than a routine hardware upgrade. The addition of touchscreen functionality, tandem OLED technology, powerful M5 processors, and Dynamic Island makes it a significant development in Apple’s laptop lineup.

However, with prices reaching nearly ₹5.90 lakh for the top listed configuration, the laptop is clearly aimed at a premium audience.

Professional video editors, graphic designers, developers, and creators who require powerful hardware may find the new features useful. For everyday users who mainly need a laptop for browsing, office work and entertainment, the price could be difficult to justify.

The introduction of touchscreen technology to the MacBook is nevertheless an important shift for Apple. It remains to be seen how consumers respond to this new way of using a Mac.
