Varanasi: Excitement is growing among cricket enthusiasts in Varanasi as preparations for the inauguration of the city’s upcoming international cricket stadium at Ganjari enter their final stage. ICC Chairman Jay Shah and BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla are expected to visit Varanasi in the third week of November to inspect the newly developed stadium.
According to available reports, the proposed visit could take place between November 18 and 20, 2026. During the visit, the officials are expected to review the stadium’s construction progress, cricket pitches, player facilities, spectator arrangements, and other infrastructure required for hosting competitive matches.

Stadium Inauguration Proposed for December 2
December 2, 2026, is being considered as the proposed inauguration date for the Varanasi International Cricket Stadium. However, the final date has not yet received official confirmation.
The proposed inspection by Jay Shah and Rajeev Shukla is expected to be an important step towards reviewing the stadium’s readiness. Following the inspection and assessment of the remaining arrangements, the inauguration programme may be finalised.
Around 98% Construction Work Reportedly Completed
The Ganjari International Cricket Stadium is reportedly around 98% complete, with the remaining finishing work and surrounding infrastructure being taken forward.
Designed to reflect Varanasi’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage, the stadium features several distinctive architectural elements inspired by Lord Shiva. These include trident-shaped floodlight towers, a damru-inspired media centre and a crescent-shaped roof.
The stadium is planned to accommodate approximately 30,000 spectators and is expected to become a major sporting destination in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Under-19 Cricket Matches May Follow the Inauguration
Preparations are also being discussed for hosting Under-19 cricket matches at the new venue in December.
The proposed match windows are December 3–6 and December 11–14, 2026. However, the final fixtures and necessary cricketing approvals remain subject to confirmation.
A New Sporting Destination for Eastern Uttar Pradesh
The upcoming international cricket stadium is expected to provide a major boost to the sporting infrastructure of Varanasi and neighbouring districts.
Young cricketers from Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Mirzapur and other parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh could benefit from improved sporting facilities and opportunities to participate in higher-level cricket.
The stadium is also expected to support tourism, hospitality, transportation and local businesses by attracting cricket events and visitors.
For now, cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the proposed November inspection and the official announcement regarding the stadium’s inauguration.
The final inauguration date will become clearer after the inspection and official confirmation from the concerned authorities.
