Varanasi Launches Smart Bike Service: Here’s How to Book

Varanasi: Exploring the historic city of Varanasi will get easier with the introduction of a Public Bike-Sharing System. The initiative offers residents and tourists an affordable option to rent regular bicycles and electric bikes (E-Bikes) through a digital booking system.

Launched by the Varanasi Municipal Corporation and Smart City authorities, the initiative aims to promote eco-friendly transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and encourage healthier commuting habits under the Fit India vision.

Smart Bike Rental Charges in Varanasi

According to available launch-related reports, the rental charges are:

• Regular Bicycle: ₹15 for 30 minutes.
• Electric Bike (E-Bike): ₹30 for 30 minutes.

Users should check the final fare displayed in the Smart Bike application before unlocking a vehicle, as applicable charges and conditions may vary.

How to Book a Smart Bike in Varanasi?

The booking process is designed to be digital and user-friendly. Users can access bicycles and E-Bikes through the Smart Bike mobile application.

Step 1: Download the Smart Bike App

Download the Smart Bike application from the Google Play Store. Register using your mobile number and complete the login process.

Step 2: Find a Nearby Station

Open the application and check the nearest Smart Bike station. The app provides information about available bicycles and vehicles at different stations.

Step 3: Scan the QR Code

Go to the selected station and scan the QR code on your preferred bicycle or E-Bike using the mobile app. Vehicle number entry may also be available as an alternative unlocking method.

Step 4: Complete the Payment

Check the displayed rental charges and complete the required digital payment through the application.

Step 5: Unlock and Start Riding

Once the payment is successful, the vehicle’s smart locking system will unlock, allowing you to begin your journey.

Step 6: Return the Vehicle

After completing your ride, return the bicycle or E-Bike to a designated Smart Bike station. Follow the instructions in the application to lock the vehicle and end your trip. Always check for ride completion confirmation.

Where Are Smart Bike Stations Located?

The initial rollout covers key areas of Varanasi, including:

• Sigra
• Sarnath
• Kachhari
• Cantonment
• Banaras Club
• Gurudham
• Ravindrapuri
• Englishia Line
• BHU area

Reports mention 18 dedicated stations across the initial network and key locations. Users should check the app for the exact station locations and vehicle availability.

GPS Tracking and Smart Monitoring

The bicycles and E-Bikes are equipped with GPS tracking technology. This will help authorities monitor vehicle locations and connect the service with the city’s Integrated Command and Control Centre.

The E-Bikes are also reported to offer a riding range of approximately 40 kilometres on a full charge.
